The AGM was held on Friday 15 March and was attended by some 40 members of the community.
Our Chairman, Ken Kilbank, said that he would be breaking with tradition by not opening the meeting with a joke, but then immediately broke his promise. Unfortunately, the joke is not worthy of repeating here! He reported that the refurbishment of the shop and PO had been well-received and finished to time and budget and he thanked the PO for their significant financial contribution. The Treasurer’s report explained that it was not possible to accurately compare the Shop’s financial position this year compared with the last for two reasons; firstly, that the dates of the Shop’s financial year had changed slightly and secondly that the Shop and PO had been closed for 3 weeks during the refurbishment. Nonetheless, the figures would suggest a slight downward trend in financial surplus. Of course, the Shop does not exist to make a profit, but to serve the needs of the community whilst covering its costs. However, it would be good to see more customers through the door!
New volunteers are always welcome. We particularly need someone to run the Shop on a Thursday morning, either every week or every other week. Also, the PO could do with an additional volunteer. Working either in the Shop or PO is not an onerous task, takes only 3 hours a week and is a good way of meeting people and contributing to the community. If you would be interested please leave your name in the Shop and someone will contact you. Please support your local Shop and PO which is run by the community, for the community. If you have any suggestions or comments on the services that the Shop and PO provides please either leave a message in the Shop or email email@example.com. We would love to hear from you.
