The Briantspuddle Post Office and Shop is the small building to the right of centre in the photograph above - it is next to the village hall and was once a granary, hence the arched base.
Established as a community enterprise in 2002, it is registered with the Financial Services Authority under the Industrial and Provident Societies Acts for the benefit of the community of the parish of Affpuddle and Turnerspuddle.
Our Shop is managed and run by 30+ local volunteers "by the village, for the village", provides paid work experience to local students at weekends and was, in 2010, the very first recipient of the annual Dorset People's Project Award.
Our Shop is grateful for the support of Sainsburys with whom it has an agreement which allows it to retail Sainsbury "own brand" goods as part of its range of some 500 general grocery and household commodities. This, together with full post office services (except motor vehicle taxation) daily newspapers and a limited range of locally sourced meats, fruit and vegetables, bread and confectionery, means that it is able to meet the basic day to day needs of local residents and visitors alike.
The Management Committee's financial aim each year is to do more than cover the true costs of operating and maintaining Our Shop, this and our voluntary input means that prices compare favourably with other village shops.
Our Shop opens EVERY DAY OF THE YEAR except Christmas Day and Boxing Day:
9.00 am - 12.00 noon Monday to Saturday
10.00 am - 12.00 noon Sundays and Public Holidays
The Post Office is open:
9.00 am - 12.00 noon Monday to Friday (closed Public Holidays)
The Post Office and Shop relies on those who give their custom and those who support it by their voluntary efforts.
